Deganwy Chosen for new Recycling Trial
Part of Deganwy has been designated a platinum area because measurements show that it has been recycling more waste than any other part of Conwy county.
This section of Deganwy has therefore been chosen to trial Conwy's next enhanced recycling stage, which will include food waste and plastics.
At the next meeting of the Deganwy and District Residents' Association Alun Jones from the county will be making a presentation on the unique Enhanced Deganwy Recycling Trial. All residents from Deganwy and district are invited.
The meeting will take place at 7.15 pm at the Deganwy Castle Hotel on Tuesday, 28th April 2009.

The meeting welcomed Ceri Morris, Keep Wales Tidy Project Officer Conwy area, who gave an illuminating talk about her work. A DVD showing achievements so far in the area, accompanied the talk. Her job is to support community groups and encourage the creation of environmental groups, particularly working with young people, drug habilitation groups and schools.
She explained that funding is available for insurance, administration costs, to purchase equipment, shrubs and trees etc. and to help groups initially. She works very closely with community police officers and local councils and showed examples of the Conwy Orchard refurbishment project, adjacent to Conwy Castle.
She also mentioned that Conwy Borough Council has received a grant of £100,000 from Keep Wales Tidy.
Ceri was then asked if she could help with dog fouling in the area, particularly along the cycle path between the Cob and Deganwy village, Deganwy promenade and on the adjacent green area. She volunteered to show a DVD about dog fouling in local schools.
The meeting also learned that fixed penalty tickets are to be issued by CPSO’s and undercover officers will be patrolling the promenade and cycle path and promenade areas. Ceri offered her help in liaising with Conwy CBC regarding the bio-diversity issue of the green and will arrange for Anne Butler, Conwy BC’s Biodiversity Officer, to contact us.
Cllr. Weyman asked if access to a grant and funding would mean having to set up as a Tidy Towns Environmental Group and Ceri replied that we could access these funds under the DDRA umbrella, offering to help us through the process.
